Interacting with other writers and authors is very important. Some say that other writers and authors are our competition but I beg to differ. I believe that getting around like minded people helps us grow as writers and authors and it gets us in our comfort zones.
When I sit and speak to someone who is not an author or writer, it's like I'm speaking to someone that is not from my side of town; someone that has different roots than me that don't understand why writers analyze things and how we look at things different. It's our creative writers side that allows us to look at things from a different perspective.
Getting around other writers and authors, going to writers conventions helps you network with other people that are doing the same thing you are doing. True authors do not try to take something away from another writer. We respect other writers for their ideas and creativity. Normally it inspires us to work a little harder.
The one thing we do have in common with other writers and authors is that we love to read. I haven't found one writer or author that doesn't have a love for reading a good book. Most writers and authors would rather curl up with a good book than download it as an ebook. We are old school.
So give yourself that chance to network with other writers and authors. Get advice from someone who has went through a phase in writing that you are trying to get to. Maybe it's publishing, editing, trying to develop a good story or poem. Whatever it is, writers are made to help eachother, not bring them down. Make sure that you connect with your fellow authors and writers.
